Matrix Explorer Scout Unit has a proud and exciting history, beginning its journey in 1999 as Matrix Venture Scout Unit. The unit was formed when four existing Venture Scout groups merged into one district-wide unit, starting with just 12 enthusiastic members. From the very beginning, Matrix V.S.U. ran a vibrant and adventurous programme — including a memorable expedition to Switzerland.

In 2001, the Scout Association restructured the Venture Scout section, creating two new sections: Explorer Scouts and the Scout Network. Matrix embraced this change and transitioned into the Explorer Scout Unit we are today.

Growth and Adventure

Over the years, Matrix has grown — not only in numbers but also in ambition. Our leadership team has expanded, and our members have taken part in a huge variety of activities, from ice climbing and caving to almost everything in between.

We’re proud to say that our Explorers have represented the UK at World Scout Jamborees around the globe, including in:

• Thailand

• United Kingdom

• Sweden

• Japan

• United States of America

• South Korea

It’s not just the young people — members of our Leadership Team have also had the privilege of attending Jamborees in Chile, Japan, and the USA, helping to support international Scouting and create unforgettable experiences for young people.

International Adventures and Local Expeditions

Alongside our involvement in Jamborees, Matrix E.S.U. has taken part in several other international expeditions and has run countless camps and adventures across the UK. Whether it's hiking, kayaking, pioneering, or something totally new, our unit is always ready to explore, challenge, and grow together.

Looking Ahead

Matrix Explorer Scout Unit has had an incredible journey over the past 21 years. We’re proud of our history and excited about our future. Here's to the next 20 years of adventure, friendship, and Scouting excellence!
